A typical drainfield/leachfield consists of a series of trenches containing pipes. It is surrounded by septic rocks and gravel, and is covered by dirt or soil.
The Soil: The soil removes harmful bacteria, viruses and other contaminents from the wastewater that exited into the drainfield/leachfield. The soil must be suitable for wastewater treatment.
