Stand with Brookhaven Police

Brookhaven Police Department, Complete Spine Solutions, Safety, Health, Chiropractic1st

On September 28, 2016, the Brookhaven Police Department arrived at the scene as two suspects attempted to enter an apartment. The officers were forced to chase down one suspect, as they apprehended the other. After the arrest, the suspects were found to be connected to a second burglary where they were interrupted while breaking into the home. The suspects pointed a gun at the homeowner and his nine-year-old daughter before fleeing the scene. If it were not for the Brookhaven Police Department’s dedication to the community, these thugs may have continued to terrorize the neighborhood.

This story is just one example of how the Brookhaven Police are working smarter and harder to keep the community safe. Officers put their health and safety on the line, every day, for the benefit of Brookhaven families.

Unfortunately, most officers in the Brookhaven Police Department admit to suffering from hip, joint, knee, low back, neck, shoulder or arm pain, due to the nature of their occupation.

They wear heavy utility belts and bulletproof vests, and carry around an assortment of weighed gear, all which increase the likelihood of strains, spasms and potential injuries.

“For me, moving even slightly in the patrol car can aggravate my low-back pain,” says Officer Wilner Piquant. “I can’t wait to take my belt off after my day, as it affects my achy feet and knees.”

“We all have some sort of pain,” Wilner continues. “You’d be surprised how many of us have knee problems, even the young officers.” Officers push through the pain so they can get the job done.

“As a pain relief, rehabilitative and wellness facility, we wanted to do our part in supporting our local police,” says Dr. David Shapiro, Chief Wellness Officer of Complete Spine Solutions in Brookhaven. “So we came up with a great idea.”

Custom foot orthotics can provide immediate relief to those suffering from low-back, knee and foot pain, but will also allow officers to stand with better posture, helping to lessen pressure on the entire spine. This allows them to perform at their peak condition. “We’re encouraging community members and local businesses to sponsor an officer with customized foot orthotics,” says Shapiro.

Complete Spine Solutions has partnered with the orthotics manufacturer to make these custom foot inserts more accessible to the officers. By donating just $99, members of the Brookhaven community can sponsor an officer’s high quality, customized foot orthotics, providing him or her with the relief and stability to carry out work assignments with greater ease.

Donation boxes are located at Complete Spine Solutions in Brookhaven Station Center, at 4060 Peachtree Rd. Suite J, Atlanta, GA 30319 and at the Brookhaven Police Department. Checks are welcome from individuals, companies, and community groups.
