Tips From Brookhaven Cops on How Not to Go to Jail

From the Brookhaven Police Department Facebook page:

Sometimes our officers get asked for tips on “how not to go to jail.”

In light of one of our recent encounters, we’d like to offer some tips:

1. Don’t drive on a suspended license. Even if it’s just to McDonalds.
2. Don’t drive in lanes that are blocked by cones and construction equipment.
3. Don’t have drugs in your pocket.
4. Don’t give the police officer who stops you a false name.
5. Don’t run away from the officer who stopped you. Also, try to know whether or not you’re wanted; it looks awful silly if you tell the officers you ran because of your warrants, and it turns out you don’t have any.

And yes, this all happened during the same stop.
