5 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day Everyday

April 22 is Earth Day. Celebrate by getting outside and enjoying the beautiful spring weather. Here are five of our favorite hikes.

Earth Day is Saturday, April 22. To celebrate we've put together five ways to get out and enjoy nature.

View the Sunset. Providence Canyon is located in the Southwestern portion of Georgia, south of Columbus, and west of Americus and Cordele. It's known as “Georgia’s Little Grand Canyon”because of a group of massive gullies, as deep as 150 feet that were caused by poor farming practices in the 1800s. On Earth Day, take a ranger led hike beginning at 6:30 pm into and around the canyon, and learn what happens when you don't take care of the land. Plus enjoy gorgeous sunset views. The cost is $5 plus $5 parking.

Play Games Outside. City kids can sometimes have a little trouble knowing how to play outside. Give them a head start with ranger lead outdoor games at Chattahoochee Bend State Park near Newnan, Ga. Afterwards, use the material list and instructions to make the same games at home. The cost is $3 plus $5 parking.

Fly through the Trees. Atlanta has several zip lines. Some great for kids, others made for total thrill seekers. See nature from a birds eye view at one of the many zip lines near Atlanta. Prices vary.

Pan for Gold. Head a little north of Atlanta to Dahlonega, Ga. and follow the gold trail. Dahlonega is the home of the nation’s firsts gold rush, a good 20 years before California. There are three different ways you can learn and experience life as a miner, a museum, an underground mine, and a placer mine. You'll also see how mining has impacted he environment. Learn more in this story on Dahlonega on 365 Atlanta Family.

Visit with the Grandfather. If you'd like to head out of Atlanta for a weekend getaway, try Grandfather Mountain in Linville, NC. Grandfather Mountain is home to the Mile High Swinging (or Singing) Bridge, as folks call it. Drive to the top or hike. There are leisurely paths, as well as trails that include ladders and cables to get to the top.
