A neighbor who witnessed the incident told WSB-TV Channel 2 on Thursday that she saw the elderly man chase away the robber, who ambushed the man in his front yard. The robber fled the scene in a car driven by another man.

The victim told the TV station that he believes the men had followed him home from a nearby bank, where the victim went to withdraw money.

Statistics from the Atlanta Police Department show that this type of street crime is rare in Buckhead, WSB-TV reported. Two pedestrian robberies occurred in the area last year, and the same number have been reported this year.
