Accreditation Decision Nears for APS

School officials hopeful school board has shown enough progress to end probation

A decision on whether Atlanta Public Schools will retain accrediation will be made soon, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

placed the APS high schools on probatation because of school board dissension and gave the school system several mandates to meet to keep accredited. In recent months, the school board has hired a new superintendent, Erroll Davis, and made progress in working together.

The action led to state legislation authorizing Gov. Nathan Deal to remove school board members if they didn't show significant progress. B, sponsored in the House by GOP Majority Whip Edward Lindsey, who represents Buckhead.

In Buckhead, was included in the probation action. It led parents in Buckhead and other Atlanta areas to form the monitoring group, Atlanta School Board: Step Up Or Step Down.
