From Patch Reports

District 8 Councilwoman Yolanda Adrean, who represents Buckhead, sent the following letter to her constituents, summing up 2011 accomplishments and looking forward to her plans and goals for 2012.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I am looking forward to the New Year and the opportunity to provide strong leadership as I embark on next year's critical assignments, including chairing the Committee on Council and participating as a member of the Finance, Transportation and Utilities committees.
Β
I have been very privileged to serve as Chair of Finance for the past two years. The challenges of serving during the greatest recession in modern history have been met head on. The city adopted comprehensive pension reform, restored the city's general fund balance from $7 million to over $70 million, and has added important investments to your public safety. Moving forward, as a member of the Finance Committee, I will continue to provide technical expertise, analytical skills and oversight to leverage your tax dollars.

Meeting the challenge of how the city invests in roads, bridges and rail is crucial to our future. My appointment to the Transportation Committee, enables me toΒ  participate in the debate, and work with you and leaders across the region and state to bring reasoned resolution to an issue that affects our daily commutes and quality of life.
Β
The Utilities committee's two major initiatives are an extension of the Municipal Optional Sales Tax (MOST) and an extension to complete federally ordered consent work on the sewer system.Β  Citizens have made an extraordinary investment in this system and, in return, you deserve strict financial accountability over use of your dollars and excellent customer service. You can count on me to work hard to make both a reality.

I am committed to the important work of the Committee on Council which comprises Council operations, its rules, ethics, elections and evaluation and confirmation of appointments made by the executive branch. The Committee is managing the redistricting process and is in the process of adopting an electronic legislative process which will greatly enhance transparency for citizens.
Β
Thank you for entrusting me with representing your interests.Β  My promise is to serve with integrity, merit and energetic engagement with you, my colleagues and the administration.
Β
Best wishes for a safe and happy Holiday Season,
Β
Yolanda
