Atlanta International School (AIS) is pleased to announce that the schoolβs Adair Art, Science and Design Center has received the prestigious LEED Silver Rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program promotes a βwhole-building approach to sustainabilityβ by measuring and recognizing performance in nine key areas.
The Adair Art, Science and Design Center opened at the start of the 2009-2010 school year.Β Located at the corner of Peachtree and North Fulton Avenues, the Secondary School building includes spacious art classroom lofts, state-of-the art life sciences and design technology labs, a greenhouse, exhibit space and lockers and commons for students in grades 11 and 12. Its design further facilitates the close interdisciplinary collaboration that is the hallmark of the schoolβs International Baccalaureate curriculum.

βThe sustainable use and management of the natural resources of our world has become of critical import for the future health, wealth and happiness of our children and their childrenβs children.Β The LEED program and certification process embodies this sentiment and aligns perfectly with the mission of Atlanta International School, which is to develop extraordinary individuals who will lead and shape our sustainable future and globalized society. It is wonderful to have this all come together in our new LEED Silver-certified Adair Art, Science and Design Center,β said Headmaster Kevin Glass.
The building was designed by Collins CooperΒ Carusi Architects and built by SG Contracting; Parramore & Quinn acted as project consultants.
About Atlanta International School
Atlanta International School (AIS) offers all three International Baccalaureate (IB) programs to nearly 1,100 U.S. and international students from three-year-old kindergarten to grade 12. By delivering a rigorous academic program combined with world-class standards in language acquisition within an open-minded, intercultural environment, AIS prepares students to succeed in a globally connected world. The school was founded 27 years ago by a group of parents, international educators and members of the business community whose aim was to provide the Atlanta area with the kind of international educational opportunities found in major cities throughout the world. Support from major corporations and public figures was obtained because of the schoolβs importance in the development of Atlanta as the premier international city in the southeastern United States.Β AIS is accredited by AdvancEd and the Council of International Schools (CIS) and is authorized to offer IB programs by the International Baccalaureate organization.Β The school is located in the heart of Buckhead at 2890 North Fulton Drive.Β Additional information is available at www.aischool.org
