Atlanta International School (AIS) is pleased to announce that the school’s Adair Art, Science and Design Center has received the prestigious LEED Silver Rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program promotes a “whole-building approach to sustainability” by measuring and recognizing performance in nine key areas.

The Adair Art, Science and Design Center opened at the start of the 2009-2010 school year.  Located at the corner of Peachtree and North Fulton Avenues, the Secondary School building includes spacious art classroom lofts, state-of-the art life sciences and design technology labs, a greenhouse, exhibit space and lockers and commons for students in grades 11 and 12. Its design further facilitates the close interdisciplinary collaboration that is the hallmark of the school’s International Baccalaureate curriculum.

“The sustainable use and management of the natural resources of our world has become of critical import for the future health, wealth and happiness of our children and their children’s children.  The LEED program and certification process embodies this sentiment and aligns perfectly with the mission of Atlanta International School, which is to develop extraordinary individuals who will lead and shape our sustainable future and globalized society. It is wonderful to have this all come together in our new LEED Silver-certified Adair Art, Science and Design Center,” said Headmaster Kevin Glass.

The building was designed by Collins Cooper Carusi Architects and built by SG Contracting; Parramore & Quinn acted as project consultants.
