Buckhead's Melanie Turner Named “Savvy and Successful Woman”

Melanie Turner, principal of Buckhead-based Melanie Turner Interiors, has been selected as one of 10 “Savvy and Successful Women” by Points North Magazine.  The publication asked readers to submit the names of women they found inspiring and successful, and from the pool of candidates, the editors selected 10 women, including Turner.  According to Points North Editor Bre Humphries, “We received many excellent nominations, and though it was a tough decision, we believe that Melanie Turner best exemplifies the type of inspirational leader we are seeking for this special opportunity.”

In just three short years since she founded her interior design firm, Turner has won numerous awards for her work, including being named Designer of the Year in 2010 and 2012 by ADAC and Veranda Magazine.  She’s known for working closely with her clients to design interiors that reflect the owner's style and personality and provide a sophisticated, yet unassuming, refuge.  Her designs emphasize simplicity and understated glamour, and feature a blend of clean lines, found objects, fine antiques and custom-designed furniture.

“I really believe I am living the American Dream,” said Turner.  “I moved to this country from Wales with my parents, sailing over on the Queen Mary.  My dad, who was a banker by day and rock concert manager by night, taught me to make bold decisions.  My mother worked for Louis Vuitton, and taught me about beauty and style.  They both exhibited a strong work ethic and showed me the power of creating opportunities and following through on them.  I had some difficult years along the way.  I’m a breast cancer survivor, and although I am happily married now, I spent several years as a single working mother following a divorce.  Keeping a clear vision of where I wanted to go helped me stay focused and ultimately achieve my goals.”
