The Heart Inhabited - Lorraine Christie solo show

Huff Harrington Fine Art is pleased to present the work of artist Lorraine Christie in β€œThe Heart Inhabited” a solo exhibit at the gallery February 8 through February 23, 2013.Β  The show opens to the public on February 8, at 10 a.m. at Huff Harrington Fine Art.

Relationships play a prominent theme in Lorraine Christie’s paintings whether a tender moment between lovers, people caught in the rain or silhouettes dancing in a wet glow. She uses a unique blend of light, shadow, texture and rich color to evoke a strong emotional reactions. Β

β€œRelationships are the glue that binds us. Love and romance can be fleeting or steadfast, depending on the people or the planets,” says Christie. β€œWhen love or a potential relationship is placed in paint upon a canvas, it can lend tangibility to an otherwise intangible notion. The heart becomes inhabited by something other than ourselves.” Β

β€œThere are no specific techniques or given formulae that can be used to depict this,” she continues, when asked about her work. β€œI simply draw upon observation of others or my own heart.Β  Β Warm and cool, thick and thin, bold statements stand beside soft strokes to depict many moods.Β  The story unfolds as the paint is applied.”

Classically trained in Belfast, Ireland, Christie’s work has been shown and is collected by individuals and institutions around the world. In the spirit of the Valentine’s season, β€œThe Heart Inhabited” Β will feature a range of Christie’s romantic-themed work.Β

β€œIt’s been an honor to represent Lorraine Christie for more than seven years,”  says Ann Huff, co-owner of Huff Harrington Fine Art.Β  β€œWe have seen how intensely her work affects her collectors and what joy that it continues to bring them.”
