According to investigators, Brooks and Brown were returning to their Decatur home at around 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 30 when they were abducted, handcuffed, and thrown into a van by an unknown number of kidnappers.

The two were then driven to Ridge Avenue in northwest Atlanta, removed from the van, and shot while still handcuffed. The two were discovered at approximately 4:30 a.m. Brown was dead when police arrived, but Brooks survived the shooting and was taken to the hospital.
