Atlanta Fire Station Temporarily Closed for Electrical Repairs

Work is expected to take one month

Staff Report

Acting Fire Chief Joel Baker has announced the temporary closing of Fire Station 23, located at 1545 Howell Mill Road NW, due to a faulty electrical system.

“For the safety of our firefighters, the Atlanta Fire and Rescue Department is temporarily closing Fire Station 23 as we make critical repairs to the electrical system,” said Chief Baker. “Repairs are expected to be complete in a month, and during this time we will continue to respond to emergencies in the area quickly and safely.”

Much of the wiring in the building is original and dates from the station’s construction in 1948. The station’s Advanced Life Support (ALS) engine and ALS emergency medical unit will be housed at Station 8, 1711 Marietta Boulevard, during repairs, which will include replacement of wires and breaker panels and the relocation of the power meter. Atlanta Fire Rescue estimates that the repairs will take about one month.
