According to Mobile-Cuisine, The Blaxican is the 2015 Food Truck Restaurant of the Year, topping competitors from South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Oregon, and Canada. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the trade publication asked its readers to nominate their favorite food trucks, and the 10 most-named trucks went on to a nationwide vote.
The AJC spoke with The Blaxican owner Will Turner, who said the name came from ethnic slang for people of mixed Hispanic and African descent. He decided that the two cultures’ cuisines were perfect complements to one another and created Mexican soul food dishes like Collard Greens Quesadilla and Mexy Mac and Cheese.

According to The Blaxican’s website, it regularly feeds the needy at the Gateway Shelter, the Peachtree-Pine Shelter, East Point Christian Church, and My Sister’s House.
According to The Blaxican’s event calendar, its first food truck event of the 2015 season is coming on April 30 in Dunwoody. The Blaxican makes regular appearances at Smyrna’s Food Truck Tuesday event, which is scheduled to begin on May 11.
CNN followed The Blaxican for two weeks to compile enough footage for an episode of “Making it in America,” which aired on CNN Headline News. The first part of the episode can be viewed below.
