Atlanta Police Offer Halloween Safety Tips
The department wants to make sure children in Buckhead have a frighteningly fun but exceedingly safe time trick or treating.

The Atlanta Police Department is preparing for Halloween, and not simply by dressing up as police officers. The men and women of the department want to see the big night go off without a hitch, and have provided the following safety advice to parents and little ones who are going out Friday night:
- Trick or treat at your local mall or neighborhood event.
- Go with friends. Ask your parents, older siblings or a neighbor to go with you. Never go alone or send kids out by themselves.
- Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks wherever possible.
- Only walk on sidewalks whenever possible, or on the far edge of the road facing traffic to stay safe.
- Carry a glow stick, reflective bag or flashlight. This will help with visibility for those that are driving in areas where kids are busy collecting treats
- Thoroughly check ALL treats before eating them! Discard any treats that are slightly open or without a wrapper. Avoid eating homemade treats made by strangers.
If you have any questions or need any additional tips, please call the department’s Crime Prevention Unit at (404) 546-5650.
