Atlanta Schools Launch Their Own Police Force
The new safety and security department is looking to hire 55 positions.

ATLANTA, GA -- The Atlanta Public School System (APS) is creating its own, in-house safety and security force, and is looking for sworn police officers and other personnel.
The system is looking to hire 55 school resource officers and fill several other law enforcement positions, including a chief of police; lieutenants; sergeants; investigators and dispatchers, among others.
The National Association of School Resource Officers is partnering with APS to facilitate training.

The new department will launch by the first day of school, August 3, 2016, with full-time, law enforcement employees who will serve as school resource officers assigned to middle and high schools to support students, staff and parents and to secure its campuses.
