Atlanta Streetcar Grand Opening is Tuesday

Mayor Kasim Reed will join several business and community leaders on the inaugural ride of the streetcar during the ceremony.

The long-awaited Atlanta streetcar will be accepting passengers for the first time this week, the City of Atlanta says.

According to the city, the streetcar’s inaugural passenger ride will ferry Mayor Kasim Reed, A.J. Robinson, President, Central Atlanta Progress, Atlanta Downtown Improvement District, Keith Parker, CEO, MARTA, and Yvette Taylor, Regional Administrator, Federal Transit Administration from the streetcar’s maintenance facility on Fort Street to the Woodruff Park stop at 10:30 a.m Tuesday.

Following the streetcar’s arrival at 11 a.m., a grand opening ceremony will be held at the park.

The $98 million, four-car streetcar system will transport passengers for free along the 2.7-mile route during the first three months of service, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said in a statement Tuesday. After that, fares will be $1, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
