Atlanta Woman Wounded by New Year's Gunfire

At least four homes were damaged by celebratory shots, police said.

An Atlanta woman is at Grady Memorial Hospital recovering from a gunshot wound she sustained when a bullet fired by a New Year’s Day reveler went through her house and struck her in the leg.

According to WSB-TV, Vivian Mayo was watching the Peach Drop on TV from her bed when a bullet came through her ceiling and hit her in the leg. Mayo is expected to survive the injury, police told WSB-TV.

Police believe the bullet which wounded Mayo had enough velocity to go through her upstairs neighbor’s ceiling. According to WSB-TV, the bullet almost struck a sleeping infant in the upstairs residence.
