UPDATE: Barn Owl Escapes from Zoo Atlanta

Please call the zoo if you spot the owl.

UPDATE (2:30 p.m.): Zoo Atlanta has released more information about their missing barn owl.

According to the zoo’s Facebook page, Soren the barn owl escaped from his trainers on Sunday. Soren has a telemetry tracking device on him, which shows his last reported position to be in the vicinity of Cherokee Avenue. However, Soren may have removed the tracking device.

Soren will most likely be seen in the treetops among leafy branches, though he may come down to the ground to eat. He is approximately ten inches tall, and is wearing leather anklets on each foot. He also has a gold band on one of his feet. Soren is no danger to humans or pets.

If you spot Soren, do not approach or handle him. Instead, call Zoo Atlanta security at (404) 624-5670.

ORIGINAL STORY (2:16 p.m.): Zoo Atlanta is asking for the public’s help to recover their escaped barn owl, Soren.

WSB reported the owl escaped at approximately 2 p.m. on Monday. Zoo Atlanta reports that Soren, who is two years old, started flight training in April.
