Galloway fourth-graders present biographical limericks

Fourth-grade students at The Galloway School participated in a time-honored tradition, the biography day celebration, on Feb. 22.

Students began by choosing a historical figure that sparked their curiosity. Then they read two books and consulted online resources. With the help of the Early Learning technology specialist, students produced timelines of their figure’s life. They also wrote a formal report, choosing from four different formats: a newspaper article, a journal spanning several years or decades, an imaginary interview, or a speech the person would give.

For the biography day celebration, the culmination of their studies, students dressed up as a biographical figure and presented onstage a limerick they wrote, giving clues about their identity. Then audience members guessed which person the student was portraying.

This year, biographical figures included Dr. Seuss, Hank Aaron, Jane Goodall, Sacagawea, and more.
