The Fourth of July is my favorite holiday — it's hot, it's sunny, the food is good and it gives everyone from the Carolinas to California an excuse to get down and have a good time.
I hit the pavement early and ran in a mob of 60,000 people in the Peachtree Road Race — a personal tradition and an Atlanta favorite. It was hot. It was hilly. It was humid. It was a blast! On my way to the start, I was able to watch the elite group blaze down Peachtree — what athletes! If I weren't so intent on running it every year, I would definitely post up with a cooler along the street to watch them and the runners that follow.
The Fourth is obviously about honoring the country's independence and freedom, but also about celebrating your own. So, later while I sat by my pool and chowed down on BBQ'd goodness, baked beans, watermelon and such, I considered how free am I? In what ways do I sacrifice true independence? How can I have fireworks in my life every day?
