With the recent addition of the Global Broadcasting and Journalism Small Learning Community (SLC) at North Atlanta, a new era has begun.

The Northerner, the student newspaper, is on track to publish the first volume sometime next week. The Northerner’s main focus however, is similar to the Patch in that much of the attention that goes into the paper is in the online portion. The students have developed a high quality news website using Wordpress, a method that easily allows reporters to upload their articles directly to the dashboard for editing. One of the articles received an advance in a post on the Buckhead Patch’s website (North Atlanta vs. Riverwood: The Rivalry Continues).
Students Elizabeth Ray and Sarah Evans head up NAHS TV, the student news broadcast. Although the name of the show is not final, three shows have already been produced, and the fourth is scheduled to air on Halloween (Oct. 31). You can check out previous shows at ghsa.tv/northatlanta.

The students have played a major role in getting The Northerner and NAHS TV off the ground, but journalism teacher Andre Regan has helped tremendously. Mr. Regan was hired by North Atlanta as one of the first teachers in the journalism program. Before North Atlanta, he taught journalism at Carver High School, after studying English at Iona College. Mr. Regan brings much knowledge and experience to the journalism program at North Atlanta, which has helped the students to take the two media outlets under their wings.
