McClure added 2 more Ks in the second and was able to limit any offense by Westminster to one run. The Wildcat pitcher lost both John Livaditis and Jake Johnston and the bats woke up when Matthew Church smacked a double. Brandon Ector got an RBI when he hit into a fielder’s choice and Jake scored giving the Warriors the lead 2 to 1. King singled up the middle to score Church to increase the lead to 3 to 1.
McClure picked off another runner and the Wildcats picked up a couple of runs to tie it up 3 to 3. The Warriors could get nothing going in the bottom of the 3rd.
Johnston made a couple of nice plays at 3B and Ector had a pair of put outs at 2B in the fourth and fifth innings. The Warriors didn’t get anything going offensively until the bottom of the 5th when Johnson singled, stole 2B and moved to 3B on a passed ball. McClure likewise singled to score Johnson. Echols singled and moved pinch runner Devin Walden into scoring position for John Livaditis’ RBI single to RF to give the Warriors the lead 5 to 3.
McClure was done and King came on in relief. King K’d two and induced a popup, but not before the Wildcats took the lead 5 to 6.
Johnson caught a fly ball to center, and King struck out one and made a very athletic play on a well placed bunt, but not before the Wildcats added two more to make it 5 to 8.
Echols homered in the bottom of the 7th to give the home crowd a glimmer of hope, but the Wildcats’ sidearm pitcher was too much. Final 6 to 8.
