Defensively, great plays in the field were commonplace and the pitching duo of Austin Hedrick and Wells King teamed up again and kept the War Eagles off balance most of the evening.

Hedrick started strong with 2 Ks in the first. King(SS) made a diving stop and spot on throw to Jackson Echols at 1st to rob Woodward of a hit and crush any hopes of getting their offense on track. Will Johnson and Harrison McClure had singles and Warriors scored 1 in the bottom of the first to get started early.

In the second frame, Hedrick scattered fly balls to Johnson(CF), McClure(SS) and John Livaditis(LF) to quickly end any threat in the top 2nd.  Singles by Echols and King and a perfect bunt by Brandon Ector led to two 2nd inning runs.

The War Eagles’ bats ignited in the 3rd and they tied it 3 to 3. They continued to hit the ball and took the lead 5 to 3 through 4 innings. King at 2B made a diving catch in no mans land behind 1B to help Hedrick out of a jam.

Top of the 5th was marked by 2 strong defensive plays by Jake Johnston at 3B. Warrior bats came alive again with a single by Matthew Church and doubles by Ector and Johnston, but we were only able to score 1 to cut the lead to one run.

Hedrick was done for the day and King struck out one and Ector (2B) and McClure (SS) turned double play to end the threat in the 6th.

King struck out 3 in the top of the seventh. Campbell Toye doubled and Johnston bunted successfully to bring King up to bat. King answered with a hard hit, walk off single up the middle scoring 2 to win the game.
