Buckhead CID Wants More Parking at New West Village Development

The body may offer financing to construct additional public parking spaces at the mixed use site next to the Buckhead Theatre.

The Buckhead Community Improvement District (CID) would like to see more public parking spaces available in the West Village, and may seek to partner with developers who are building new projects in the area.

BuckheadView reports that the CID broached the idea during an Oct. 1 meeting with The Hanover Co. regarding the developer’s plans for a mixed-use apartment tower with ground-level commercial space that would be built over a new 600-plus capacity parking facility adjacent to the Buckhead Theatre.

During Hanover’s Oct. 1 meeting with Development Review Committee of SPI-9 (Special Public Interest district), the developers were asked if they would be amenable to building an extra level of parking for public use, paid for by CID dollars. Hanover was open to the idea, but said it could cost up to $4 million to add another level to the parking deck.

Hanover plans to construct 351 apartments and nearly 13,000 sq. ft. of commercial space at the lot, located at 3116 Roswell Road. The site is immediately to the north and adjacent to the Buckhead Theatre. The Hanover Company has offered to arrange offsite parking for theatre events during the construction of the new project, as the existing parking for the Buckhead theatre will be blocked off during the process.

The Hanover Company is requesting six variances from the city to complete the project. In-depth details of each variance can be read at BuckheadView.
