Buckhead Council Member to Honor Girl Scouts

District 8's Yolanda Adrean to present proclamation Monday on Scouts' 100th anniversary

Atlanta City Council member Yolanda Adrean, who represents Buckhead's 8th District, will honor the Girl Scouts of the USA on the organization's 100th anniversary.

Adrean will host a private reception at noon Monday for representatives of the organization’s Greater Atlanta Council and members of local Scout troopsΒ  in Council Committee Room No. 1 (second floor).

That will be followed by a proclamation presentation at 1 p.m. during the regularly scheduled meeting of the Atlanta City Council, according to a council announcement. The events will be at Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Ave.

On March 12, 1912, the founder of Girl Scouts of the USA, Juliette Gordon Low, led the organization’s first meeting in Savannah, the announcement said.

Since that first meeting, more than 50 million girls have participated in the organization, the announcement said. There are currently 42,000 girls and 18,000 adult members in the Greater Atlanta Council.
