Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods Meeting This Week

Speakers at the meeting will include the local American Legion post commander and the Buckhead Heritage Society's executive director.

Buckhead residents are invited to attend the November meeting of the Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods (BCN) on Thursday, Nov. 13 from 6:45 to 8:45 at Peachtree Presbyterian Church at 3434 Roswell Rd.

BuckheadView reports that featured speakers at the meeting include Kenneth DiSimone, the new commander of Buckhead’s American Legion Post 140, and Erika Danylchak, the executive director of the Buckhead Heritage Society.

DiSimone will speak about the post’s influx of veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the post’s outreach in the Chastain Park community. The post is in negotiations with a neighborhood youth association to construct a T-ball field on their Chastain Park property, and is also looking to establish a vegetable and flower garden on their property to be tended by veterans.

Danylchak will discuss the society’s plans to bring Buckhead’s history to life by eschewing outdated historical markers and using modern methods such as glass panels superimposing historic photographs of Buckhead sites over those same sites in the present day or outlining rows of Civil War soldiers’ tents at the places where they once stood.

Apart from the guest speakers, the Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods will also elect their officers for 2015 and is asking as many members as possible turn out for this important vote.
