Buckhead Living Sentinels Tree Hunt

Also Learn About Planned Additions to the Historic Resources Register

Buckhead Heritage is launching a one-year project to find Living Sentinel Trees that still stand in our neighborhoods from the Creek Indian Nation. When the Treaty of Indian Springs was signed on Jan. 8, 1821, surveyors laid out land lots for a settlers' lottery. They marked about 1,000 Buckhead trees by species on their first map.

Using mapping technology, the organization believes they have located one of these still-standing trees. BHS is asking for assistance in locating more of these trees.

Speaker John Beach will talk about the tree hunt and planned additions to the Historic Resources Register Jan. 8, 2020, at 7 p.m. in the Gould Room of The Cathedral of St. Philip. The registration fee for Buckhead Heritage members is $10. Non-members can attend for $15.
