Buckhead to Say Goodbye to LaFonda, Fellini's

Fellini's will be replaced by a larger restaurant, while LaFonda will be gone forever.

ATLANTA, GA -- Goodbye, LaFonda. See you in a while, Fellini's.

The two Buckhead icons will soon be demolished. Fellini's is next door to a new development on the site of the old Garden Hills shopping center, and will be reborn in a new space.

Atlanta Eater is reporting that the owner of both restaurants, Clay Harper, is closing the eateries due to space constraints.

The new Fellini's will feature more indoor seating, more parking as well as Fellini's well-known patio dining. BuckheadView reports that original plans called for LaFonda to be renovated, but since then, owners and developers, including Brand Properties, have decided that the space is simply not large enough for two, fully functioning restaurants.

Garden Hills shopping center suffered major damage in a fire back in 2013.

In 2015, Brand Properties unveiled a plan for the site to house a strip mall and a movie theater, but neighbors and nearby residents objected to the plan, which persuaded the company to go back to the drawing board.

The restaurant is being designed by Stevens & Wilkinson.
