Buckhead Toy and Gift Store Closing After 64 Years
Gretchen's Children's Shop will be closing this year.

ATLANTA, GA — Gretchen’s Children’s Shop is closing later this year after more than six decades in business.
The toy and gift shop opened in 1952, according to Buckhead View.
Current owner Anne Ames said she is retiring to spend more time with her husband.

“I am so proud to have successfully operated the store for the past 15 years, and have very much enjoyed the opportunity to serve everyone. But the time has come for me to join my husband in retirement,” she said in a statement.
Ames is the store's third owner, and she has been unable to sell the business.

On Thursday, Sept. 1, Gretchen’s will have a retirement sale beginning at 9:30 a.m., and everything in the store will be on sale. The store will be closed from Sept. 2-5.
Ames has not determined when the store will actually shutter its operations.
