Buckhead YMCA Receives Art Supplies, Healthy Snacks

The gifts were given by SCAD's Buzz Bus.

The Carl E. Sanders YMCA located at 1160 Moores Mill Rd. in Buckhead received a special treat from the Savannah College of Art and Design’s Buzz Bus on Thursday.

BuckheadView reports the bus and several SCAD students and teachers surprised the facility with over $2,000 in art supplies that will be used for the YMCA’s afterschool programs. SCAD also donated healthy packaged snacks and education supplies for YMCA staff.

SCAD’s visit focused on creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle through a proper diet and vigorous exercise. Student-athletes were on hand to explain the importance of higher education and physical activity throughout one’s life,

Around 100 students from three area elementary schools were at the YMCA when the surprise presentation occurred. Students participating in the YMCA backpack program received a SCAD messenger bag filled with school supplies and healthy snacks.

The Buzz Bus was launched in 2010 and has served over 7,000 children.
