⏰ Daylight Saving Time Poll! 🤔
Daylight saving time begins on March 12. According to history, we can thank entomologist George Hudson for coming up with the idea in 1895. Implementation took place in 1918 to save resources and extend the work day during wartime. In 1966, daylight saving time became the law of the land, but states could opt out. So far, only Hawaii and Arizona have done so. Now, dueling studies point to the successes and failures of the practice. Where do you stand on the issue? So far, 63.7% don't like daylight saving time, while 35.6% do. Only 0.7% don't care one way or the other.
📰 Here are the top stories today in Buckhead:
- Do you remember the fire that damaged the Buckhead Saloon at 3227 Roswell Road Northeast in early October? On Thursday, the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department announced its findings. Of note was video footage that documented the time between 12:25 a.m. and 7:05 a.m. Fire investigators are now convinced that the fire was accidental and not maliciously set. They closed the case. (Atlanta Fire Rescue Department)
- Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens is not happy about the push to revive the Buckhead cityhood debate. While speaking at the Atlanta Press Club Tuesday, he went on record that "Buckhead City is something I don't want." Referring to the area's incorporation into Atlanta in the 1950s, he noted that "you can't unscramble an egg." (SaportaReport)
- In (perhaps) related news, the Buckhead City Headquarters at 3002 Peachtree Road Northwest was vandalized earlier this week. Bill White indicated that the group sustained a loss of about $8,000. Someone threw a large rock at the venue and shattered glass. (Fox, Bill White)
- Novelis, considered to be the "world's largest recycler of aluminum," changed its address. Since the middle of January, its global and North America headquarters is now at 3550 Peachtree Road in One Phipps Plaza. The company takes up 90,000 square feet of office space in the building's top three floors. (Novelis)
- The 2023 Atlanta eCommerce Summit is coming to Buckhead. Scheduled for March 15 and taking place at the JW Marriott, attendees will rub elbows with "local eCommerce experts and decision-makers across retailers, brands, merchants and solutions providers." So far, confirmed speakers represent Papa John's, Char-Broil, Mud Pie and others. (Retail Summits)
