UPDATE: Conflicting Reports on Status of Circus Performer Missing From Atlanta

A circus representative says the performer has been found, but police say the case is still active.

UPDATE (Friday, 12:10 p.m.): Atlanta police say they are still treating the disappearance of a Chinese circus performer as an active missing persons case, despite an announcement from the circus that the performer had been found.

Julia Peters, who represents Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus’ production company, said Friday morning that Wei Cao, 25, had been located.

“The Atlanta Police Department is still actively investigating this case as a missing person,” department spokeswoman Kim Jones stated just before noon Friday.

Police say that Cao disappeared at 9 a.m. Monday from 1698 Marietta Road, hours before she was scheduled to perform at Philips Arena. Cao, a Chinese national, is a member of the China National Acrobatics Troupe.

Cao and the rest of the circus are scheduled to leave town on Sunday after performing at the Gwinnett Arena.

ORIGINAL STORY (Thursday, 11:08 a.m.): Atlanta police are asking for the public’s help in locating a young woman who has not been seen in three days.

According to a bulletin, Wei Cao, 25, disappeared at 9 a.m. Monday from 1698 Marietta Road, hours before she was scheduled to perform at the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. Cao, a Chinese national, is a member of the China National Acrobatics Troupe.

Cao is described as an Asian woman who stands 5’3” tall and weighs 100 lbs. She has black hair and brown eyes. She is scheduled to leave town with the circus on March 1, and has no known mental or physical issues which would keep her from doing so on her own.

Anyone who has information on Cao’s location or makes contact with her is urged to call 911 or to contact the Atlanta Police Department’s Adult Missing Persons Squad at 404-546-4235.
