City Council Member Sponsors Fibroids Seminar

District 9 Atlanta City Council memver Felicia Moore will sponsor a "Freedom From Fibroids" seminar at noon Tuesday in the Council Chamber, Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Ave.

The event, which will focus on uterine fibroids and what women can do to prevent and care for the tumors, will be hosted by Dr. John C. Lipman, according to an annoucement.

Moore in the annoucement said that the seminar is an effort to create awareness of a less invasive method of treatment.

“Every woman should attend this seminar because fibroids can affect all of us,” said Moore.  “When diagnosed with this tumor, many women have to live with uncomfortable symptoms and some with no symptoms at all. And while most women receive a recommendation from their doctor to undergo a hysterectomy, there is an alternative called uterine fibroid embolization, and this seminar will help to educate all of us on that treatment.”

Statistics show that millions of women in the United States suffer with uterine fibroids, and one in three women has had a hysterectomy due to their symptoms, the release said.
