Congressman Loudermilk signs on to BOLD Alzheimer's Act
BOLD Will Create Public Health Infrastructure for Effective Alzheimer's Care

Congressman Barry Loudermilk has signed on as a co-sponsor to the βBuilding Our Largest Dementia Infrastructure for Alzheimerβs Actβ (Bold Act - H.R. 4256). The passage of this bill will treat Alzheimerβs as a public health crisis..
This bill will create an Alzheimerβs public health infrastructure across the country to implement effective Alzheimerβs interventions focused on public health issues such as increasing early detection and diagnosis, reducing risk and preventing avoidable hospitalizations. The BOLD Infrastructure for Alzheimerβs Act will also increase implementation of the Healthy Brain Initiativeβs Public Health Road Map nationwide by establishing Alzheimerβs centers of excellence, providing cooperative agreements to public health departments, and increasing data collection, analysis and timely reporting.
One out of five Medicare dollars is spent on Alzheimerβs care. This is expected to almost quadruple by 2050 if we do not change the way the disease is treated. One out of three seniors will die from Alzheimerβs or other dementias, more than breast and prostate cancer combined.
Sinde 2000, deaths from heart disease have decreased by 14 percent, while deaths from Alzheimerβs have increased by 89 percent.
