Covenant Presbyterian Church Will Hold a “Blessing of the Pets” Service Sunday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m.
The annual Blessing of the Pets is a lively and joyful family worship service. All pets are welcome, but must be in a crate or on a leash.

Covenant Presbyterian Church will hold a special worship service and blessing of pets on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. All are invited to bring their pets to join in this lively celebration, but every animal must be on a leash or confined inside a cage or crate. The service will be held in the church’s parking lot at 2461 Peachtree Road in Buckhead.
“This is one of my favorite services,” said Rev. Dr. Jill Ulrici, associate pastor. “I love seeing everyone come together to give thanks for their pets and ask for God’s blessing on these beloved animals. It’s a little noisy and a little messy, but that’s all part of the fun. Although we always have a good number of dogs, cats, hamsters, fish and birds, there are always a few surprises. One year I blessed a horse!”
The tradition of blessing animals began in the Catholic Church as a way to honor St. Francis of Assisi on or near his feast day of Oct. 4. The idea has spread into many other denominations, which have incorporated their own practices into the service and usually focus on blessing pets.
