Covenant Presbyterian Church in Buckhead will offer its annual worship service of Lessons and Carols on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. All are welcome to attend this special Advent service, which will feature traditional Christmas music, as well as spirituals by William Dawson and music arranged specifically for the Covenant women’s choir by Director of Music Jeffrey McIntyre. Covenant Presbyterian Church is located at 2461 Peachtree Road. Free parking is available on the top deck of the Peachtree Battle Shopping Center, immediately south of the church.
“Lessons and Carols is a celebration of the Christmas season with many of the beautiful Christmas carols and well-known scripture verses we know and love,” said Dr. Jill Ulrici, associate pastor of Covenant Presbyterian. “We welcome all visitors into the sanctuary to join us for this special service, and hope they will enjoy the music and the chance for spiritual reflection in what can be a very hectic time of year.”
The service of Lessons and Carols dates back nearly 140 years ago to England. Through the service, the story is told of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah and the birth of Jesus through a series of short readings from the Old and New Testaments, accompanied by the singing of Christmas carols, hymns and other music. While Lessons and Carols originated in the Anglican church, over the decades it has been adapted and used by other denominations worldwide. The most well-known presentation of Lessons and Carols is broadcast annually from King’s College, Cambridge.

“This is Covenant’s fourth Christmas season with Jeffrey McIntyre as Director of Music,” said Dr. Ulrici. “Many Atlantans know him as the Founder and long-time Artistic Director of the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus. He has also worked on musical and theatrical productions at DeKalb Music Theatre, Georgia State University, Georgia State University and Onstage Atlanta, as well as serving as organist and choir director for a number of churches. We feel very fortunate to have him directing our music ministries here at Covenant Presbyterian.”
