Cyclists, Drivers Must Learn to Cooperate in Buckhead: Durrett

The Executive Director of the Buckhead CID said during a meeting regarding road projects in the area that cyclists weren't going anywhere.

Buckhead residents that use horsepower and pedal power to get around the neighborhood need to learn the rules of the road and need to be civil to one another, the executive director of the Buckhead Community Improvement District said during a meeting last week.

Jim Durrett, himself an avid cyclist, fielded comments from Buckhead drivers who are upset about bike riders’ perceived risky behavior on area roads in light of proposed plans to add bike lanes to Peachtree Road between Shadowlawn Drive and The Peach shopping center. According to BuckheadView, Durrett said that cycling is a viable means of transportation in Buckhead and reinforced the need for both drivers and cyclists to get over their ”adolescent” attitudes towards one another and road safety.

Other changes coming to Buckhead’s roadways include further improvements of Peachtree Road between Maple and Shadowlawn drives, improvements to the entry and exit to the Pharr Road post office, and re-striping projects on East Paces Ferry and West Paces Ferry.
