Dr. Heath Rada to Preach and Teach at Covenant Presbyterian Church this Sunday, Feb. 21

Dr. Rada, moderator of the 221st General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA), will preach at 11 a.m., with a Q&A afterwards.

Covenant Presbyterian Church in Buckhead is pleased to welcome Rev. Dr. Heath Rada, moderator of the 221st General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA), Sunday, Feb. 21. Dr. Rada will preach at the 11 a.m. worship service and lead a question-and-answer session afterwards. All are welcome. The church is located at 2461 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30305. www.covpresatlanta.org.

A native of Richmond Va., Dr. Rada is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, Union Presbyterian Seminary and NC State University. He has also studied at St. Andrews University and Harvard. He is retired as CEO of the Greater Richmond Chapter of the American Red Cross, where he served as coordinator for the organization’s work in Virginia and the District of Columbia. He also served as President of the Presbyterian School of Christian Education (now Union Presbyterian Seminary) in Richmond.

Dr. Rada is committed to challenging the church to renew and adapt to changing cultural norms. He has led numerous discussions on a wide range of ideas including welcoming young people to the church, the issue of gay marriage and the form and structure of the Presbyterian Church (USA) itself. Rada has encouraged the church to broaden its sense of inclusion, continue in world mission and engage ecumenical and interfaith partners in meaningful service and dialogue.

For nearly a century, Covenant Presbyterian Church has served the city of Atlanta through its mission of β€œEquipping the people of God to serve Christ in the world”. Covenant Presbyterian Church is a member of Presbyterian Church (USA) and opened its doors in downtown Atlanta in 1904 as Harris Presbyterian Church. Twenty years later, the church community moved to its present location at 2461 Peachtree Road in Buckhead, where it holds Sunday morning and evening worship services. Today, Covenant is home to a welcoming congregation that seeks, serves and celebrates together. The church boasts a lively youth group, hands-on mission work, a women’s spirituality ministry and a strong music program, as well as offering public lectures, social events, educational opportunities and more. Currently, the church supports numerous organizations including Buckhead Christian Ministry, the Central Night Shelter, ChildSpring International, Habitat for Humanity, The Open Door Community, Earth Covenant Ministry and Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta. Covenant also takes a leadership role in the LaGonave Haiti Partners, a more than 20-year partnership with the Episcopal Church of Haiti.
