Five Ways to Celebrate Happy Healthy Cat Month
September is officially National Happy Healthy Cat Month. So here it is, a special blog post dedicated to our super special feline friends.

Last month we talked about the benefits of owning a pet, especially if you have children. If you didnβt get a chance to read it, make sure to check it out here. At Deceased Pet Care, we wanted to let you know about a little known September holiday thatβs pretty important to us. In fact, the entire month is a holidayβ¦ Can you guess what it is? September is officially National Happy Healthy Cat Month. So here it is, a special blog post dedicated to our super special feline friends. Here are five ways to celebrate Happy Healthy Cat Month
In the Mood for Food
There has been much debate in recent years about whether cats need dry or wet food. Though the research has been leaning much toward the wet food arena, we donβt want to draw sides. What we do want, is to share a few extra ways your cat can feel like a member of the family. First, if you have another pet (especially a dog), keep the cat food in a separate area of your home. Thereβs nothing worse than being pushed aside by a bigger animal while trying to enjoy a healthy meal. Second, make sure the water and food bowls are frequently cleaned. Cats have sensitive palates and digestive systems. A clean eating apparatus will go a long way.
Toilet Talk
Can you imagine if you could only use a bathroom that was unclean and full of waste? Itβd be less than ideal to say the least. The same goes for your cat's litter box. To avoid your cat going around the house, keep the box extra clean. Waste should be removed at least once a day. Itβs also important your catβs litter box and food are in different places. Itβs not only unsanitary, but just a bit gross to eat right where you use the toilet. These extra steps are sure to make your pet one happy cat.

On the Hunt
Cat are natural hunters, but they can also sleep up to twenty hours of their day. If you have an indoor cat, your pet can accidentally go from Simba to the Cheshire Cat. Make sure you have ample ways for them to play around the house. Toys provide passive activity, while a laser pointer is always a guaranteed way for an afternoon of activity and fun. Keep an eye on your catβs weight as lethargy leads to obesity which leads to major health complications later in life.
Cat Scratch Fever
Thereβs nothing worse than bringing a new pet home only to have it scratch and claw your furniture and carpet to shreds. Though this can be caused by anxiety (which is a discussion for another blog), implementing a scratching post in your house is a great solution. When you bring the post home, make sure to show it to your cat. Also, for a few days, sprinkle it with catnip and place it in the center of your home. Once your cat makes the post a regular stop, slowly move the post to an out of sight place in the home.

Vetting Process
It may seem counterintuitive, but your will actually be much happier if they go to the vet. Have them spayed or neutered at a young age, get the microchipped if possible, and ensure their health is in tip top shape. Set aside monthly savings to cover the costs. Your pet will thank you, not just today, but for years to come.
