Fulton County Chairman: Buckhead Library Will Not Be Replaced, Moved

John Eaves said he has learned a few painful lessons showing how much the community is tied to its library.

The Chairman of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners told a group of Buckhead businesspeople that the county was dedicated to keeping the Buckhead Library open and planted in the Buckhead Village.

Dr. John Eaves told the audience at a recent Buckhead Business Association meeting that he and his office had learned the hard way just how much Buckhead is connected to its library. Eaves said that he received an overwhelming amount of pushback from citizens when a developer planned to relocate the library in 2008, and again when budget cuts reduced the library’s hours of operation last year.

Eaves said the county was embarking on an ambitious, bond-funded project to build eight new libraries in the county and to renovate nearly two dozen currently standing branches, including the Buckhead facility.
