Ga. 400 Lane Closures to Begin for MARTA Bridge Work

One southbound, one northbound lane to be shut from evening through morning April 10-12

Ga. 400 lane closures will begin next week as construction of a pedestrian bridge over the highway pushes forward, announced Friday.

A northbound and southbound lane will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, through Thursday, April 12, for the work, which also is to include a new entrance for the Buckhead MARTA station, the agency said.

The project, to be completed by November 2013, is being done under a joint partnership among the Buckhead Community Improvement District, Georgia Department of Transportation, State Road and Toll Authority, Federal Transit Administration and the city of Atlanta.

When the project is completed, pedestrians will be able to cross between Stratford Road and Tower Place Drive over Ga. 400. MARTA began work on the project in January 2012, before the official

The project includes:

  • A new entrance on the north end of the existing Buckhead Station.
  • Pedestrian bridge over north and southbound lanes of Ga. 400.
  • An elevator/stair tower, sidewalk and bridge connection on the east side of Ga. 400.
  • Sidewalk access to an elevated walkway from Tower Place to connect to the bridge on the west side of Ga. 400.
