Ga. House OKs Congressional Districts

Senate to finish work next week

The Georgia House on Thusday approved redrawn congressional districts for the state, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The State Senate will consider the new congressional map next week, the newspaper said. The state Legislture has already approved new districts for the state House and Senate.

Buckhead will be split between Democratic congressman John Lewis' 5th District and Republican Rep. Phil Gingrey's 11th.

While Lewis condemned the split, Buckhead business leaders welcomed the change, saying that the community will benefit from having represenation from both parties.

"It'll be a good thing for us to have both looking out for Atlanta," said attorney Brad Carver, a north Buckhead resident who specializes in governmental affairs for Hall, Booth, Smith & Slover.
