Georgia Tech Phi Delta Theta Alumni Inducted into 2016 Hall of Fame

Georgia Tech alums Fuller Callaway, Jr., Edward Stamps, IV, and Charles Yates inducted into Phi Delta Theta Georgia Alumni Hall of Fame.

The Phi Delta Theta alumni clubs (http://georgiaphidelts.weebly.com/) and undergraduate chapters throughout Georgia have announced the 2016 Phi Delta Theta Georgia Alumni Hall of Fame Inductees. Among the inductees are three Georgia Tech Alumni.

Textile manufacturer and philanthropist Fuller E. Callaway, Jr. (Georgia Tech β€˜24), noted amateur golfer, Atlanta businessman, and civic leader Charles R. Yates (Georgia Tech ’32), and Summit Partners co-founder Edward R. Stamps, IV (Georgia Tech β€˜63), will be recognized throughout the month at various Founders Day celebrations across the state. These events will be hosted by undergraduate chapters at University of Georgia, Mercer University, Georgia Tech, Georgia Southern, and the Atlanta, Macon and Savannah alumni clubs.

β€œPhi Delts have been a vital part of Georgia’s history since establishing the Oglethorpe College chapter in 1871. Among its ranks you find governors, college presidents, soldiers, clergy, actors, business owners, CEOs and much more,” said Richard T. Orr, Phi Delta Theta Province President. β€œThe Hall of Fame is a way to appreciate these men for their many accomplishments.”

Also being inducted are U.S. District Court judge William A. Bootle, (Mercer β€˜21), Georgia Governor George D. Busbee (UGA β€˜48), Managing Director, Brunner Inc. and Phi Delta Theta General Council President Rich Fabritius, (Kent State β€˜94), G.I. Bill co-author Rufus C. Harris (Mercer β€˜15), USB Senior Vice President Michael R. Sanders (Georgia Southern β€˜78), Actor Otis B. β€œSonny” Shroyer (UGA β€˜57), H. Stockton Atlanta founder Hamilton Stockton, Jr. (UGA β€˜51), Capricorn Records co-founder Alan Walden (Mercer University 2014), and retired SunTrust Banks CEO James Williams (Emory β€˜52).

β€œThese alumni serve as role models to the undergraduate chapters,” said Michael Sterling, current Georgia Tech chapter president. β€œThese alumni with connections to the state of Georgia have all made a significant impact professionally and or civically and it is important that they are recognized for their accomplishments – especially those who graduated from Georgia Tech.”

Established in 2015, the Hall of Fame selection committee includes the current presidents from each of the undergraduate and alumni chapters. Past inductees include Sam Nunn (Georgia Tech β€˜57), William β€œBilly” Porter Payne (UGA β€˜66), Jean Mori (Georgia Tech β€˜55), and Budge Huskey (Mercer β€˜78).

The Georgia alumni clubs are among Phi Delta Theta’s oldest. Over the years, they have included many prominent members of their local communities. The Clubs’ mission is to provide a social and professional networking forum for the more than 6,000 alumni across the state representing more than 150 undergraduate chapters.
