This year, in addition to handing out free ice cream, Haagen-Dazs is celebrating the contributions of the humble honey bee. The company's Häagen-Dazs Loves Honey Bees campaign is 10 years old and the brand is dedicating Free Cone Day to the hard-working pollinators and asking consumers to support the buzz.

According to the company, one-third of the world's foods, including one-third of Haagen-Dazs flavors, are bee dependent. But bees are disappearing at a high rate.

Here's how you can learn more and help:

  • The Extraordinary Honey Bee is a new immersive VR experience created by Häagen-Dazs. View the world through a bee’s perspective, learn about the plight of the honey bee and discover simple ways to help them thrive.
  • Donate to the Xerces Society to help reach a goal of planting 1 million acres of habitat for bees.
  • Share your Free Cone Day celebration and spread the word about supporting the bees with #hdfreeconeday. Selected posts will be featured on the brand’s Instagram account.
