Get Out: MA Tour of Homes Edition

The Home Tour starts tomorrow, June 9, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. One home featured on the tour is that of Jim and Frances Zook, located at 1169 Milmar Drive in Buckhead.

The only home from Buckhead on the tour, the Zook home is a modern wonder that came from humble beginnings. Frances is herself an architect with Clark and Zook Architects and began remodeling the home immediately after she and her husband purchased it in 2001.

Frances said she chose to live in a modern home because of the many modern designed homes she worked on while living in Austin, Texas. While the split-level, mid centrury home was already modern, Frances updated it and helped take it to the next "level" through exstensive exterior and interior rennovations.

While the Zooks have invested heavily in their home, Frances said the rennovations are attainable to most people with the budget to upgrade their own homes. Functionality, she said, was just as important as style to her family.

"We have two kids. Its a family of four. We are busy and there are constantly people coming in and out so we really had to accomodate it to be a family home."

About MA Tour of Homes

The MA Tour of Homes will be Saturday, June 9 and Sunday June 10, 10am – 4pm at multiple locations in and around Atlanta.

Tickets are $35 and include home tour attendance for Saturday and Sunday. The event will be "free flowing," meaning ticket holders can go to any home on the tour within the alloted time.

Tickets can be purchased at the Design Exhibition and tonight at 6:30 at Terminus 2, 4th Floor, 3280 Peachtree Road NE, online at www.modern-atlanta.org, and at select MA ticket outlets all around Atlanta (including in Buckhead).

All ticket holders also receive a copy of the big and beautiful Armchair-designed 2012 edition of Design Is Human publication/ MA Home Tour Guide. Students pay $25.

Since 2007, Modern Atlanta Home Tour has featured homes with bold, contemporary architecture and design. The tour examines the full vernacular of modern residential design currently as seen in Atlanta, from the cutting-edge with the use of new sustainable materials and digital technology, all the way back to the post-modern era when architecture was inspired by the works of Frank Lloyd Wright and Charles and Ray Eames.

Those taking the tour will also witness thoughtful architects bringing their passion for contemporary excellence into the interiors of more traditional homes with some amazing results; and fine examples of conversion-projects adapted to individual taste and the relevant concerns and needs of today’s demanding contemporary lifestyle.
