Grecian Gyro, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, is set to open its fifth Atlanta location this July in Dunwoody, Georgia. Dunwoody’s new weekly Greek destination is located in the Georgetown Shopping Center at 4468 Chamblee-Dunwoody Road, Suite 4, Dunwoody, Ga. 30338.
“My father opened the first Grecian Gyro in 1982 with only $50 in his pocket and a secret sauce recipe,” said George Koulouris. “We are excited to now be opening the fifth location of Grecian Gyro and are eager to get to know the Dunwoody community in an atmosphere of family-style dining.”
The interior décor of the 1400 square foot Dunwoody location is unique in that the Koulouris family has built the dining tables themselves and the chairs have been designed to encompass the feel of an old world Grecian café. The one-of-a-kind wall décor includes a photo by Terry Stephens of the original Grecian Gyro sign in Hapeville, Ga., old barn windows that frame a photo of Athens, Greece and much more. There will be six counter bar seats modeled after the original Hapeville location and 34 dining room seats, including a communal high top table.

Since its opening in 1982 in Hapeville, Ga., Grecian Gyro has become Atlanta’s home for high-quality, quick-serve, fresh Greek fare. Founder Nick Koulouris opened with the goal to deliver gyros and Grecian food that reminded him of what he grew up eating and cooking as a young man in Kalamata, Greece. The family-owned and operated gem has three additional company-owned locations in Hapeville, Tucker and Forest Park and is now under the ownership and direction of Nick’s sons George and Pano. The Koulouris brothers realized their concept and business model had legs and created Grecian Gyro Franchising in 2009. In late 2011, George and Pano began to seek out qualified individuals to build, support and run franchise stores in Atlanta and throughout. The first franchise store owned and operated by the brother-sister duo of Steve Van Wey and Christine Dolgetta, along with Christine’s husband, Joe Dolgetta, opened in June 2012 in Johns Creek, Georgia.
The fast-casual restaurant became an Atlanta staple over the past 30 years, as lines formed out the door and customers came in day after day. The Koulouris family is eager to carry on the Grecian Gyro legacy and begin getting to know and serve the community of Dunwoody.
