Groundbreaking Tuesday for Atlanta Fire Station 28, Zone 2 Mini-Precinct

Riverside Community Room to also be part of new facility

From Patch Reports

The groundbreaking for the new Atlanta Fire Station 28 and a mini-precinct will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the city of Atlanta announced.

The fire station and the Judge Arthur Kaplan mini-precinct will be at 1925 Hollywood Road NW and Felker Ward Street, west of Buckhead. The building will also house the Riverside Community Room, according to the annoucement.

Invited guests include Mayor Kasim Reed, Fire Chief Kelvin J. Cochran, Police Chief George Turner, City Council members Felicia Moore and Public Safety Chair Ivory Lee Young Jr., Bureau of Cultural Affairs Public Art Program Manager Eddie M. Grandersons and other community leaders, the announcment said.

“This new fire station and mini-precinct will serve as a safe haven for this community for years to come,” said Reed said in a statement. “It is an example of how my administration and the Atlanta City Council are collaborating to improve public safety by putting more police officers and firefighters on the streets and working with neighborhood residents to hear their concerns and address their needs.”

Moore, whose District 9 includes part of Buckhead, said, “this new facility has been long awaited by our public safety personnel and the community. I’m extremely excited that we will break ground on Tuesday. The extra bonus for nearby residents will be the Riverside Community Room, which will serve as a meeting place for various community organizations.”

Maj. Robert Browning, Zone 2 commander, said, “We are pleased to have another place where residents can come and interact with Atlanta police officers. This new mini-precinct will allow our officers to meet with citizens, write reports, and afford them the opportunity to stay in the community longer so they do not have to return to the main precinct.”
