Thomas Deans Fine Art is pleased to present an exhibition of new works by Atlanta artists Helen Durant and Betty Edge. Helen Durant’s Helen in Wonderland comprises mixed media collages and paintings of animals portrayed with artist’s unique mixture of wit and authenticity. A Golden Eye takes its name from one of Betty Edge’s abstract, painterly photographic images of water, which form the core of her exhibition. The artists’ works will be on view from Friday, May 11 through Tuesday, June 5. The gallery is hosting a public opening reception on Friday, May 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Expressing her joy in and deep concern for animal life and the environment, Helenn Durant creates a universe of her own in which goats dance, wolves turn bright red, and dogs walk on two legs. Much of Durant’s work is in mixed media, primarily charcoal, acrylics, and collage, of which she is an acknowledged master. Helen Durant has exhibited widely in the United States. In Atlanta she has shown her work for many years, and her work can be seen in many public, corporate, and private collections throughout the United States and abroad.

Betty Edge is an Atlanta photographer who works in both color and black and white, creating intensely observed still lifes and landscapes, and waterscapes that focus on abstract elements in the movement of water. Her work is a contemporary expression of an age-old tradition in Western art, using nature as allusion and metaphor, revealing the mystery and the poignant transience of beauty. Betty Edge has been involved with photography since her youth. She has lived in Atlanta for many years, and aside from exhibiting in Atlanta and elsewhere, she has devoted considerable time to art philanthropy.
