Tenants in a low-income housing development in Buckhead are having to find a new place to live after the church which owns the property made plans to destroy the complex.
Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church wants to knock down four apartment buildings along East Wesley Road, and sent out 60-day notices to all their tenants at the end of April, WSB-TV says. The deadline to vacate the apartments is now July 15. The church helped out their soon-to-be former tenants by paying their June rents.

A church spokesman told WSB-TV that the apartments are in such poor repair that the church cannot afford to maintain them and plans to tear them down and leave green space in their wake. Creative Loafing reports that the cost to bring the apartments up to code would be $500,000.
The high repair bill and the added property taxes that come with a Buckhead address made church leaders decide to demolish the apartments and exit a business they never wanted to enter, Creative Loafing says.
