
softball team in the second round of the AA state playoffs is again on the road, this time to Blue Ridge to play Fannin County.
The Lions are depending on the same formula that gave them an opening round win over Heard County last week: Jordan Wolfe's arm and strong hitting.
"Jordan Wolfe was incredible once again," coach Mark Bagwell said of his ace pitcher, who allowed Region 5-AA champoion Heard County only five runs in the three-game series, including an opening game shutout. The Lions, entering the tournament as Region 6-AA's fourth seed, took the deciding game Saturday 8-4. In Lovett's 6-0 opening victory, Wolfe drove in two runs with a key hit.

Lorin Rogers, Natalie Sanders, Caroline Herbert, and Tatiana Nettles played leading roles in Saturday's win, Bagwell said in an e-mail. Along with Wolfe's pitching, the Lions prevailed with good glovework. "The defense was just awesome all series," Bagwell said.
Now the Lions, 24-7 on the year, battle a tough Fannin County team, which was the third seed in Region 8-AA and beat Dade County in the opening round.

"There is no doubt we have our hands full," Bagwell said.
The two teams play a doubleheader, at 5 and 7 p.m., at Blue Ridge City Park. If necessary, the third game will be Thursday.
